This visualisation, made by Jer Thorp, demonstrate how large the UK DNA database is – with over 4.5M individuals profiled, it’s the largest DNA database in the world. It holds profiles for more than 7% of the UK’s population. As well as the size of the database, Thorp wanted to show how it broke down – in racial groups, in age groups.
Jer Thorp is an artist and educator from Vancouver, Canada. A former geneticist, his digital art practice explores the many-folded boundaries between science and art.
